| Sample Answer #1 One day, Zack, a superhero, was flying through the forest as a bird after a big storm. He wanted to make sure no one was stuck out here. After a few minutes of flying, he spotted a house with trees fallen all around it. He carefully landed outside of the house and shape shifted back into his human form. Then, he heard a faint cry. He followed the noise to a window that looked into the basement. He looked in the window and saw a small girl crying in the corner. The window was mostly covered by trees. Zack looked for the door but it was smashed in by trees, and he wasn’t strong enough to move them. He was walking around the house when something caught his eye. It was a hole leading into the house small enough for a mouse. Zack quickly shape shifted into a tiny mouse and crawled through the hole. Once he was inside, he shape shifted back into his human form and helped the little girl get upstairs and safely out of the house. |

| Sample Answer #2 Elsa, an ordinary girl to most, is secretly a superhero. She is known as super lady. She has the superpower to control things with her mind. She even has a special suit she wears when she is saving people. One day, she was going on a walk through the park when she came to a bridge. She walked down the side while cars drive by her. Suddenly, a car tire blew and the car swerved causing another car to also swerve. Unfortunately, the car drove right into the side of the bridge and crashed right through it. Super lady watched as the car fell over the side of the bridge toward the river below. After a second, a loud splash sounded as the car hit the water. I have math class first, then english, and then social studies. After social studies, I go to lunch. I eat with my friends. After lunch is reading time. After thirty minutes of reading, I have science class, and we do a science experiment. My last class of the day is my elective. My elective can be gym, art, or music. My mom picks me up from school. As soon as I get home, I eat a snack and watch TV for thirty minutes. Then, I sit at my desk in my room and do my homework. Sometimes, I have to ask my mom for help. Once I finish all of my homework, I am allowed to go outside and play. If it is raining, then I stay inside and play video games. My dad gets home around 6pm and that is when we all eat dinner together. Then, after dinner, I take a shower and brush my teeth. After, I get my backpack ready for school in the morning, and my mom and dad tuck me into bed. |

| Sample Answer #1 The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living thing on Earth. It is located off the northeastern coast of Australia. According to an article, “Facts About the Great Barrier Reef,” the reef spans over 1,500 miles. It is so big that it can be seen from space, and according to one site, it is the only living thing that can be seen from space. The reef is home to numerous types of marine life including corals, jellyfish, sharks, rays, and fish. The Great Barrier Reef is a huge draw for tourists. The article, “Great Barrier Reef Facts,” states that about two million people visit the reef every year. People have the option to take a boat ride over the reef or swim, snorkel, or dive in the reef. There are over 900 islands located throughout the reef and over 2,600 individual reefs. According to some, the Great Barrier Reef has been around for about 20 million years.

Diamonds are created from carbon during extremely high temperatures and pressure. The process of forming diamonds is not quick. According to one site, it takes anywhere between one to three billion years for diamonds to form from carbon. Volcanoes play a big role in the formation of diamonds. Diamonds are extremely hard substances. In fact, one site refers to it as the hardest material that we know of. This site also states that it can only be scratched by other diamonds. Writing Prompt: On a piece of paper, write an essay to convince someone why either zombies or vampires are better than the other. Include three main reasons. |
| This specific writing prompts requires you to write a persuasive essay. In other words, you want to come up with three reasons to persuade someone why one thing is better than the other. Your essay should have five separate paragraphs. The first should be the introduction. The second, third, and fourth paragraphs should be the three reasons, and the final paragraph should be the conclusion.
In sample answer number two, the writer is trying to persuade the readers that vampires are better than zombies. The three reasons why that are given are vampires have sharp teeth, vampires can turn into bats and fly, and vampires are faster than zombies. |
| Sample Answer #1 I think that zombies are better than vampires. I have three main reasons why I believe this. First, zombies are smarter than vampires because they eat brains. Second, zombies are able to go outside at any point during the day or night. Third, they are single minded. First, I think zombies are much smarter than vampires are because they eat brains. All of those brains must make them smart. Being smart is a good characteristic for anyone to have. Second, in addition to being smarter, I believe that zombies are also better because they can be outside at any point during the day or night. Vampires, on the other hand, can only be outside at night because they will burn if they are exposed to the sun. Because of this, vampires sleep all day and are lazy. Lazy people don’t get things done.

| Sample Answer #1 My opinion of movies versus books is that books are better than movies. I have two main reasons why I believe this. First of all, I think books are better than movies because they allow you to immerse yourself into the world of the book and imagine things the way you want. There is more freedom to do this when reading a book than when watching a movie. When you watch a movie, everything visually plays out in front of you, including the events and the characters. However, in a book, you have more freedom to imagine these things yourself. My second reason why I believe books are better than movies is that they help you learn. Reading books helps to strengthen your mind. It shows you different writing styles, can teach you grammar, and can teach you vocabulary. Further, reading books helps you to become a better writer yourself.
